MAPS benefit show - Jan 11th

We are so excited to be playing a benefit show for the MAPS organization. The show is at Doug Fir Lounge on January 11, 2019. We are playing with some of our oldest music friends, who have made some of our favorite records from the last decade or more, Woolen Men, and these jerks (Bim's new band) called Help. We will be donating half of all the money from ticket sales directly to MAPS.

It is time to take action and reclaim our own minds in a sick world. MAPS is a powerful ally in this fight, and that is why we decided to put on this benefit show. It has nothing to do with trying to party and do drugs. It has everything to do with studying this medicine that has the potential to ease the mental health crisis that we find ourselves in on this very strange timeline. MAPS has a mission that is near and dear to our hearts. MAPS has been around since 1986 and they are pursuing the scientific study of psychedelic substances, and their application in therapeutic settings. If you are not familiar, here's a good video about what MAPS is doing.

Let's face it, the War on Drugs has been a disaster. It has perpetuated violence and poverty around the world and has placed an unsettling number of non-violent people behind bars.

In addition to these atrocities it has prohibited the serious study of some of the most compelling substances known to our species. These are substances that have been used safely and effectively by human beings for many thousands of years. This prohibition on scientific study is shameful. It's as if we have a key to the universe and the potential to unlock the mysteries of the psyche and the soul, but Nancy Reagan, Tricky Dick, and a few other dark lords have convinced us that we should fear science and the natural world. On a more grounded level, these substances have been clearly shown to effectively heal mental disorders like depression, anxiety, addiction, and PTSD.

MAPS is one of the few groups that has been able to get any type of study off the ground in recent years. They are currently running trials using MDMA and LSD in the treatment of PTSD, and Ibogaine to treat opiate addiction. In a world with rising levels of suicide, drug overdoses, and alcoholism (diseases of despair) it is time to embrace medicine that does more than mask symptoms with artificial flushes of serotonin. Modern pharmaceuticals do not have the same power as psychedelic assisted therapies to permanently shift perspectives and combat the root causes of mental illness. It is time to look at the landscape anew and finally choose to do things that help people on a deeper level.
