Rigsketball is a band basketball tournament that our drummer, Bim Ditson, invented and runs each summer in Portland, OR and each spring in Boise, ID. The tournament is played by 32 local bands in the middle of random streets, all on a regulation height basketball hoop Bim built onto our tour van. This all started in 2011 and has happened each spring at Treefort Music Fest in Boise, ID and each summer at PDX POP NOW! and at Rigsketball Musicfest in Portland, OR, since then.
Rigsketball is for fun!
Bim started Rigsketball as more of a funny art project than anything else. After the first year in 2011, he expanded the event to include a bunch of small shows surrounding the tournament. These satellite shows featured bands that were playing in the basketball torment and by 2013 Bim had created a monster that eventually became known as "Rigsketball Musicfest". Rigsketball's mission is to build community. To create strong bonds between musicians in Portland across genre, age, level of experience, and background in general. Rigsketball Musicfest is the perfect incarnation Bim's ideal of "sameness" between all members of the creative class. It is a free all ages music festival that happens on the same day as the finals of the Rigsketball tournament.
Surfs Drugs is a home recording project and roatating-personnel live band, songwriter Berg Radin. Known around for performing on guitar with PDX rippers AND AND AND, Berg began playing Surfs Drugs in late 2012 resulting in some bedroom pop that has been rolled fat with a rare hybrid strain of depth and reward. Surfs Drugs not waves, man.
Berg is living near Eugene, OR now with his beautiful new daughter and family. He's been putting together shows and is generally quite involved in the music community in down there with homies like the rad humans from the band VCR and others, who are doing the lords work making music in that wonderful little town.
